Color Materials
Brightening Our Cities with Color
Coloring agents, or pigments, are a starting point for the application of iron oxide. These materials are found not only in the vivid "bengala" grilles that adorn old towns but in pigments for wood, tiles, and ceramics, not to mention the anticorrosive color coatings used in the manufacture of automobiles and ships. They are even used in inks and cosmetics. Today you'll find them out in the open landscape, in the form of earth-tone concrete and asphalt designed to blend with the natural environment.
